View RecordsCompare Lake County, Illinois and Florida criminal-record searches, specify the names and years needed, and distinguish an unavailable document image from an absent case.
Lake County, Illinois and Lake County, Florida operate different criminal-record services. The two examples below are not exhaustive of all Lake Counties. Identify the state before entering a name, and specify whether you need a clerk’s search for selected years or a copy of a known case document. A county court search is not a statewide police history or a current jail-custody check.
The Illinois Circuit Clerk accepts searches by mail or in person. Include the person’s name, date of birth, years to search, requested case types and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Address a mailed request to ATTN: Record Search, Clerk of the Circuit Court, 18 North County Street, Waukegan, IL 60085. Specify criminal cases rather than leaving staff to infer which records you want.
The published background-search charge is $6 per name per year: one name across five years is $30. Mailed payments may be money order, certified check or cashier’s check payable to Clerk of the Circuit Court; personal checks are not accepted. Cash and credit cards are accepted only in person. The search page does not state a fixed processing period, so ask before relying on a deadline.
A search request and a document-copy request are separate services. The clerk’s Request a File or Document page asks for your name, law firm if applicable, case number, telephone and email. It links the Document Copy Request Form, a separate Storage File Retrieval Request Form, and Certified Copy Requests, including electronic certification and mail/in-person options. Use the storage route when the needed file has been archived.
Name the particular judgment, sentencing order or docket entry you need and ask for the copy price and accepted format. The $6 search fee does not buy every document in the file. Before ordering electronic certification, confirm that the recipient accepts it. If a returned document appears to concern another person, have the clerk check the case number and available identifiers before you use it.
The Florida clerk’s Search Online Court Records page leads to its court-record search; the service and registration are free. Search known name variations and review the court, case type and dates. Access depends on the user’s role, case type and document contents. Many images require a request and confidentiality redaction before release, even when the case entry is visible.
Generally, pre-2003 cases do not have online images; criminal-traffic images begin in 2009. Some older files were lawfully destroyed under retention rules before imaging. A missing image therefore does not promise that a paper copy can still be supplied, nor does it prove that no case existed. Ask Court Data & Records about the specific case and document. Posting may also lag a recent ruling.
Use one Court Records Search Request Form per individual or business. It searches Lake County, Florida only, at $2 per name per calendar year. Submit to [email protected], by mail to Court Data & Records, P.O. Box 7800, Tavares, FL 32778-7800, or at Central Intake, 550 W. Main Street, East Wing, first floor. Identify names, years and criminal categories carefully.
The form estimates seven to ten business days for results and requires payment before the search. Choose email, fax or postal reply; fax adds $1 per request and postal delivery requires postage or a stamped self-addressed envelope. Questions go to 352-742-4336. The form restricts juvenile-record release to the subject or legal guardian with picture identification.
The Court Data & Records fee schedule lists printed copies at $1 per page and document certification at $2. It accepts personal check, cashier’s check or money order for record requests and searches, but not credit cards; cashier’s checks more than two months old are not accepted. Make payment to the clerk as instructed on the current fee page and verify the total for search, copies, certification and delivery.
Retain the state, county, names, years and search date alongside any result. A matching name needs comparison with the intended person; a charge listing needs its disposition. Ask the handling clerk to investigate an incorrect case entry, providing the case number and exact discrepancy. An empty five-year county search cannot establish that a person has no records elsewhere or in a different period.
